Acute HIV treatment

Acute HIV treatment

Sometimes condoms break or slip off, or you may have chosen not to use one at all. If you then realize that there has been a risk of exposure to HIV, you may want to consider PEP, an acute treatment that may prevent HIV transmission.

PEP is offered if you have been fucked without a condom by someone whom you know or suspect to be HIV positive or if you have fucked someone whom you know to be HIV positive without a condom.

The treatment has to be started within 24 hours of exposure, according to Danish health regulations. It consists of taking hiv drugs for one month and may entail unpleasant side effects.

PEP is by no means a substitute for safe sex and there is only some 80% certainty that it will prevent HIV transmission, should this have occurred.

If you need further information about PEP, you can call Sikker6info at 33 91 11 19.
